CIE Welcomes Dr. Shuchen Guan as a Technical and Scientific Manager

CIE is pleased to welcome Dr. Shuchen Guan, who joined the CIE Central Bureau as Technical and Scientific Manager on 1 June 2026.

Shuchen has a background in psychology and received her PhD in Vision Science from Peking University, Beijing, in 2015, where her research focused on how visual information is processed in the early visual cortex. She later joined the Colour Perception Lab at Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, as a postdoctoral researcher, working for several years on colour perception using approaches including colorimetry, real-world lighting environments, hyperspectral imaging, eye tracking, and computational modelling.

Through her international academic career, Shuchen has developed expertise in areas closely aligned with the scope of the CIE, together with a broad understanding of the research and scientific publication process. Her experience includes conducting and presenting research, contributing to international collaborations, and peer reviewing for leading vision science journals. This combination of subject expertise and familiarity with scientific quality and publication standards provides her with a strong foundation to support the quality of the CIE’s publication portfolio and contribute to its future development within today’s evolving publishing environment.

In this key role, Shuchen will support the coordination, development, and quality assurance of the CIE’s work, with a particular focus on publications and related processes. Working closely with the CIE Secretary General, the Technical Management Board, the CIE Divisions and Technical Committees, she will help advance the organisation’s activities in line with its strategy. Her contribution will be important in maintaining the high quality of CIE outputs, including international standards, technical reports and other publications that support the organisation's international work.

We are pleased to welcome Shuchen to the CIE and look forward to the expertise and experience she will bring to the organisation!
