On the 4th of December, Dr. Peter Blattner, CIE Past President, and Dr. Diana Wernisch, CIE Secretary General, visited LMT Lichtmesstechnik GmbH, a Silver Supportive Member of the CIE, at their headquarters in Berlin. LMT has been producing highest quality photometric instrumentation under its original ownership since its founding in 1974.
This visit coincided with LMT’s celebration of its 50th anniversary, a significant milestone for the company, which has been a leader in measurement technology and a valued CIE Supportive Member for the past decade. Another milestone in LMT’s work is the accreditation of their subsidiary ACT-LUX GmbH as a calibration laboratory in the field of photometry by the German accreditation body DAkkS and by ILAC. During the visit, Dr. Blattner and Dr. Wernisch met with Mr. Raymund Hammer, Founder and Managing Director of LMT. To mark the company’s 10-year Supportive Membership, Dr. Wernisch presented Mr. Hammer with a framed CIE Supportive Member Certificate, celebrating a decade of strong partnership between LMT and the CIE.
LMT has played a vital role in advancing light and lighting science, contributing to the development of numerous technical reports and international standards in collaboration with the CIE. Among these is the recently published CIE S 027:2024 - Photometry of Road Illumination Devices, Light-Signalling Devices and Retroreflective Devices for Road Vehicles, developed by TC 2-67 which was chaired by Dr. Thomas Reiners from LMT.
As part of the visit, Mr. Hammer arranged a tour of the Chair of Lighting Technology at TU Berlin, an integral part of the CIE community. The CIE delegation met with key researchers, including Dr. Martine Knoop, Head of the Daylighting and Indoor Lighting Research Team; Dr. Inga Rothert, Laboratory Manager; and Mr. Florian Brux-Kuhnert, Deputy Faculty Information Officer of Faculty IV. The discussions highlighted the important intersections between academic research and applied standards development.
The CIE appreciates LMT's longstanding commitment to the lighting community and looks forward to continuing this collaboration for many years to come.
