September 19-21, 2012: CIE 2012 "Lighting Quality & Energy Efficiency" (Hangzhou/CN)
HOW IT IS ORGANISED
The affairs of the CIE are vested in National Committees which have the responsibility for decisions on all matters relating to the organization. The composition of the National Committees varies from country to country, but each is required to represent and have the cooperation of all organizations having an interest in light and lighting. An important factor is the willingness and ability of those who represent the various National Committees to participate in and contribute to the technical activities of the CIE.
At the present time the CIE comprises 41 member bodies from the following countries or geographical regions:

Apart from National Committees CIE also recognizes other categories of membership: Associate National Committees, Associate Members and Supportive Members. More information about these categories can be obtained by clicking here.
The affairs of the CIE are discussed and decided by the General Assembly, consisting of the Presidents of the National Committees. The General Assembly meets at least every four years during the quadrennial Sessions of the CIE but usually also holds a mid-term meeting between the Sessions. Between meetings of the General Assembly the administrative responsibility and the technical activities are delegated to a Board of Administration. This Board consists of the President, the President Elect, Treasurer and Secretary and an appropriate number of Vice Presidents, and the Division Directors (see further under Divisions). These officers are elected for a 4 year term by the National Committees (General Assembly).
