Summary of 2006 CIE Division 2 Meeting

16 June 2006, Braunschweig, Germany

June 30, 2006

Attendees: Total 54 persons from 21 countries, including 15 country members.

Director’s report (T Goodman)

·    The deadline for submitting abstracts for CIE Quadrennial Session in Beijing is September 15, 2006. Call for papers and submission form are on the CIE website (http://www.cie.co.at/cie). Board will meet in October to prepare technical programs.

·    Publications from other bodies, such as ASTM, DIN, IESNA, are also available on the CIE webshop. Purchasing these publications through CIE webshop is encouraged, since this earns additional income for CIE.

·    The criteria for “CIE recommended journals” have been finalized. Three journals have been accepted and the list (and the criteria for acceptance) will be published shortly in CIE news. Proposals for journals to be added to the list can be made to DD.

·    DD has decided to set up a small working group within the management team, to prepare guidelines for preparing uncertainty sections for TC reports.  DD asked all the TC chairs to hold any work on uncertainty sections until the guidelines are produced.

·    There is a concern that some TCs have more than 30 members, too large for a TC to work effectively. DD requested that, before accepting new members, TC chairs should ensure that the person has sufficient expertise to contribute to the TC. She is also preparing some general guidelines regarding the way in which members are accepted onto D2 TCs, which will be circulated shortly.

Secretary’s report (Y Ohno)

·   D2 now has 36 country members.  Country representatives of Brazil, Turkey, and South Africa changed.  We now have 193 persons on the D2 mailing list.

·   Production of the minutes of 2005 D2 meeting in Leon, Activity Report May 2006, work on the D2 website, and the status of the email reflectors were reported.

Editor’s report (J Gardner)

·    Two draft standards, DS014-1.3 and DS014-2.3 went through NC ballot.  There was one negative vote in each, which are being resolved.

·    Preparation of the ILV is coordinated by VP Bastie. CB has collated terms in alphabetic order, separated in two chapters – Basic terms and Applied terms.

·    Editor edited the draft documents of TC2-16, 2-25, 2-39, 2-40, 2-45, and 2-48.

Progress reports from TCs, Reporterships, and Liaisons.

·    The following TCs met in Braunschweig: TC2-29 (Larason), 2-40 (Rattunde), 2-45 (Muray), 2-46 (Scarangello), 2-48 (Eppeldauer), 2-50 (Schuette), 2-53 (Roesler), 2-56 (Miller), 2-58 (Kohmoto), 2-59 (Blattner).  Short reports of these meetings will be available in the forthcoming D2 meeting minutes.  Detailed reports may also be sent from TC chairpersons to members.

·    Status of all the TCs, reporterships, and liaisons were reported by TC chairs, reporters, liaison persons who were present, coordinated by AD Sauter, AD Vandermeersch, and DD Goodman. Written reports had been submitted by most of the TC chairs who were not able to attend, and these were also presented.

Dissolution of TCs and reporterships

·    TC2-61 to be closed.  ISO TC38 reversed their decision and is to progress the work in this ISO committee.  Instead of closing the TC, a reportership is to be established to keep the liaison with this ISO committee.

New TCs and reporterships

·    A reportership mentioned above is to be established.  The reporter is Mike Pointer.

Changes in TCs and reporterships

·   The chair of TC2-47 changed to Armin Sperling (Germany).

·   The chair of TC2-60 changed to Emma Woolliams (UK).

·   The chair of TC2-28 changed to Teresa Goodman (UK).

Future D2 Symposia

·      The fourth symposium on LED measurements (2-3 days) will be planned for 2007, separate from the Quadrennial Session in Beijing.  Dates and venue TBD, hopefully linked with some other meetings – e.g., CORM (May, Gaithersburg), CCPR (June, Paris), or other proposals welcome.

·      3rd symposium on measurement uncertainty will be considered for 2008.

·      2nd symposium on pulsed sources will be considered for 2009 or later.

Future D2 Meetings

2007:  D2 will meet during the Quadrennial Session in Beijing, China.  Division meetings are scheduled for July 9-11.
