The five hotels listed above are all within reasonably easy walking distance from NPL (maximum of about 25 minutes walk, mostly through Bushy Park. If the weather is nice it is a very pleasant walk, but not so good if raining - a taxi might be better then. Carlton Mitre is on the banks of the river Thames, opposite Hampton Court Palace. It is a lovely hotel, with a very nice restaurant, but it is expensive! The Liongate Hotel is not as quiet or luxurious but is a little less expensive and is often used by people attending conferences etc at NPL. I have heard quite good reports of Firs and Bushy Park Lodge, but I haven't been inside so I don't really know what they are like. Both of these are slightly closer to NPL than the others on the list, probably about 15 minutes walk (along roads, rather than through the park). I am arranging for directions and a map to be put onto our web site. There are also many hotels in Kingston and Richmond, but these are not on the list. It is fairly easy to get to NPL from either Kingston or Richmond - both involve a short train journey (about 10 or 15 mins) and a 5-10 min walk from the station to NPL. I can get a list of hotels in Kingston and Richmond if necessary. The exchange rate is approximately 1.6 USD = 1 Pound (Sterling). - note from Teresa Goodman
